Comptroller

Job Summary:

Working closely with the Chief Finance Officer, the Comptroller is a key member of the Finance team. Under limited supervision plans, develops and supervises the College’s overall financial management system.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Reports to the Chief Finance Officer and supervises the work of the Business Office Staff.
  • Collaborates in the revision and preparation of annual and long-range budgets for presentation to the Chief Finance Officer, the President, and Board of Directors.
  • Ensures that approved College expenditures are properly controlled within the limits of approved budgets.
  • Supervises the maintenance of all accounting records and bank accounts.
  • Supervises the receipting and disbursing of all College funds.
  • Coordinates with all program directors supported by restricted funds to ensure the proper management of all such funds.
  • Supervises the receipting and accounting of all funds received by the College from students, from donors, and from the operation of its auxiliary enterprises.
  • Coordinates with internal and external auditors, financial planners and consultants regarding appropriate financial management and budgetary practices and procedures.
  • Assists with the College’s overall purchasing and leasing program and its program of insurance for all College property.
  • Supervises the College’s programs of cash management, investment management, and risk management.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Chief Finance Officer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of accounting, auditing, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate new accounting and financial management procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze budgets and complex financial statements.
  • Ability to supervise professional and clerical employees.
  • Well-developed skills in written and oral communication.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration from an accredited institution (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in college, university, or related experience in accounting, financial management, or business management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
