Library Technical Assistant

Bachelor’s Degree Required; Masters preferred

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Acts as resource person for daily operations and for Library Director in his/her absence.
  • Provides reference and readers/audiovisual/technology advisory services to the students and the community.
  • Oversees technical services and coordinates materials for all areas associated within the library.
  • Gathers statistics for inventory, and other reports as needed.
  • Web development skills strongly desired.
  • Assist the students and faculty with research databases.
  • Assist with the daily operations of the library functions.
  • Participates in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the library’s archives.
  • Experience with enterprise management and scanning software strongly desired.
  • Coordinates and facilitates archives access requests by staff, researchers, research associates, students and the community, as well as responding to archives information inquiries and requests.
  • Responsible for researching and responding to copyright and ownership issues.
  • Responsible for providing scans of images and documents as needed using appropriate digital and metadata standards.
  • Knowledge of archives preservation requirements, storage needs, and registration procedures for archives.
  • Prepare archival records, such as document descriptions, to allow easy access to information.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of professional standards and trends.
  • Familiar with governmental regulations and legal requirements related to archives and experience in compliance with same.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all professional matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, orally and in writing, with students, staff, vendors and other patrons.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and other similar products.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Organize archival records and develop classification systems to facilitate access to archival materials.
  • Ability to document any and all workstation changes and updates.
  • Archival development skills strongly desired.
  • Assists with workstation stability, security, and performance.
  • Develops and implements working software applications according to library needs.
  • Performs repetitive procedures such as photocopying or scanning, opening and delivering mail, collecting or compiling statistics, filing, data entry, and maintenance of library information resources
  • Assists in monitoring, ordering, receiving and storing library inventory or supplies and work forms.
  • Submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports in a timely manner.
  • Catalog and process government documents and other materials.
  • Work rotating weekends.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent oral, communication and written skills
  • Must possess computer skills: knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Access).
  • Must work nights and weekends
  • Familiar with archiving materials and data.
