Understanding Financial Aid
Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
After completing the FAFSA, your family will receive an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number. The EFC is not the amount you will pay -- it is an index number used by the financial aid office to determine how much aid your student is eligible to receive. The lower the EFC, the more need-based aid your student may qualify for.
Cost of Attendance
The Cost of Attendance (COA) is an estimate of what it costs to attend ABC for one academic year, including tuition, fees, room and board, books, transportation, and personal expenses. Financial aid cannot exceed the COA. Visit our Tuition and Fees page for current rates.
FERPA & Privacy
Under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), students over 18 control access to their educational records -- including financial aid information. The Office of Financial Aid cannot discuss a student's records with parents unless the student has submitted a signed FERPA release form. See our FERPA page for details.
Parent PLUS Loans
Parents of dependent undergraduate students may borrow a Federal Direct PLUS Loan to help cover educational costs not met by other financial aid. The current interest rate is 7.21% (fixed). A credit check is required. Apply at studentaid.gov.
Verification
Some FAFSA applications are selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education. If selected, you may be asked to provide additional documents such as tax transcripts, W-2 forms, or verification worksheets. Our verification partner Inceptia will guide you through the process.
