International Students


International students must meet the same requirements as first-time freshmen and submit application materials by March 1 for the fall semester, August 1 for the spring semester, and February 1 for the summer term. International students who wish to enroll in Arkansas Baptist College must submit the following to the Office of Enrollment Management:

  1. A $100 non-refundable application fee.
  2. Official academic transcripts of secondary school, college, or university translated in English.
  3. The applicant is required to show proficiency in oral and written expression as evidenced by achievement of a minimum score of 500 on the paper based test or 173 on the computer based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (except in countries where English is the official language).
  4. Certified proof of the ability to meet financial obligations incurred as a student at Arkansas Baptist College.
  5. Proof of health insurance coverage.


TheI-20 form (Certificate of Eligibility) will not be issued until the applicant has been accepted by the Office of Enrollment Management and has submitted a financial statement indicating how fees will be paid while attending Arkansas Baptist College.


The U.S. Department of Justice’s Immigration and Naturalization Service rules governing nonimmigrant “F-1” foreign students require all persons in this category to pursue a full course of study. This means that undergraduates must register for a minimum of 12 credit hours. Any modification of this requirement that results in a course load of less than the minimum must be authorized by the Primary or Designated School Officer (P/DSO) and the Chief Academic Officer. Failure to satisfy these requirements will cause students to be ineligible to receive the I-20 form to support their nonimmigrant status


Step 1: Receive your I-20 from Arkansas Baptist College

All applicants must submit application and all supporting documents for admission as requested. Please visit to complete the online application.

In addition, all applicants to Arkansas Baptist College must complete the Affidavit of Support, which can be found attached to this document.  Submit the Affidavit along with the application to Arkansas Baptist College.The Affidavit of Support enables ABC to generate an I-20 form, which the US government requires in order to grant you an F-1 student visa.

Step 2: Pay the $200.00 SEVIS I-901 fee online

The SEVIS I-90 fee activates your I-20 in the SEVIS database. It must be paid prior to your visa interview. You will need to print your receipt and take it with you to the US Embassy/Consulate.

Continuing students who are transferring in from another US institution, as well as dependents applying for an F-2 visa, do not usually need to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.

You will need your SEVIS ID number from your I-20 form in order to complete the SEVIS Form I-901. You can find this number above the bar code on the top right-hand side of your I-20.

Step 3: Make a visa appointment with your local U.S. Embassy/Consulate

It may take a few weeks or more to get an appointment at your local U.S. Embassy or Consulate so make an appointment as soon as you have completed Steps 1 & 2. You should wait and make your travel arrangements after you have obtained your visa.

Step 4: Be prepared with the following documents for your visa interview

  • Form I-20A-B, Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant (F-1) Student Status-For Academic and Language Students: You will need to submit a SEVIS generated Form, I-20, which was provided to you by your school. You and your school official must sign the I-20 form
  • Online Non-immigrant Visa Electronic Application,Form DS-160
  • A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant’s intended period of stay in the United States unlesscountry-specific agreements provide exemptions.
  • If more than one person is included in the passport, each person desiring a visa must complete an application.
  • One (1) 2×2 photograph.
  • A MRV receipt to show payment of the visa application fee
  • TheSEVIS I-901 fee receipt

All applicants should be prepared to provide:

  • Transcripts and diplomas from previous institutions attended
  • Scores from standardized tests required by the educational institution such as the TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GRE, GMAT, etc.
  • Financial evidencethat shows you or your parents who are sponsoring you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living expenses during the period of your intended study. For example, if you or your sponsor is a salaried employee, please bring income tax documents and original bank books and/or statements. If you or your sponsor owns a business, please bring business registration, licenses, etc., and tax documents, as well as original bank books and/or statements.


PLEASE NOTE: Canadian Citizens do not need visas to study in the U.S. You do need to obtain an I-20 (or DS-2019) Certificate of Eligibility from the university that you plan to attend. At the time you receive the I-20 (or DS-2019) you will be registered with SEVIS, the student tracking system. You will be assigned a SEVIS number, and be required to pay a registration fee (see below).

When you cross the border to study you will need to provide the Officer at the port of entry:

  • Proof of identity and citizenship (a Canadian passport for example)
  • The original I-20 (or DS-2019) certificate
  • Proof that you have paid your SEVIS fee
  • Proof that you have the funds to pay for the school that you plan to attend
  • Proof of your ties to Canada

F-1, M-1 and J-1 visa applicants with I-20 (or DS-2019) forms issued on or after September 1, 2004 are required to pay a SEVIS fee before applying for the visa. This is a one-time fee charged to F-1, M-1 and J-1 visa applicants to cover the cost of administering the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

For foreign citizens applying to become F or M students or J exchange visitors pay the following SEVIS I-901 fee amounts: I-901 F-1/M-1 visa applicants (full payment) – $200


This form is for sponsors using their own income and/or savings to support a student. It must be completed by the person who will provide the student with full or partial financial support during the student’s course of study at Arkansas Baptist College. Should you have multiple sponsors, please make additional copies of this page. Note: Each sponsor MUST fill out an Affidavit of Support.
