About ABC - School of Business and Applied Science

Mission Statement

The Arkansas Baptist College School of Business and Applied Science builds on the institutional commitment by providing quality educational instruction through the integration of technology and a variety of teaching methods. Emphasis is placed on graduating critical thinkers, competent researchers, effective leaders, managers and communicators with high ethical standards.

The School of Business and Applied Science has the following goals:

  1. Provide technological resources, research methods and a rigorous academic program that enhances current and future personal growth.
  2. Identify career opportunities, promote student internship programs and bridge the gap between local, national and international employment.
  3. Teach Christian values as they relate to business and government.

The School of Business and Applied Science offers a Bachelors of Business Administration, Bachelors of Business Administration with Public Administration Concentration, and an Associate of Business and Public Administration. The degree programs are designed to allow approved candidates the opportunity to prepare for leadership and managerial positions. The Division seeks to accomplish the additional objective of advancing business and economic knowledge through its use of internships and mentors. Students assume final responsibility for selection of their academic programs and adherence to all regulations and requirements for meeting their degree plans. Degree plans should be checked periodically (at least once per year), with an advisor or Chairperson of the Division.

Admissions Requirements

All students majoring in Business Administration must file a formal application with the Division and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on all course work, (minimum of 41 hours completed). Students who have a “C” or better in English Composition I (SCH 131) and II (SCH 132); Oral Communications (SCH 239) and College Algebra (SCH 143) must meet the requirements for unconditional admission to the School of Business and Applied Sciennce. Conditional approval may be considered for those students who have a minimum GPA of 2.35, and a “C” or better in Introduction to Business Administration (BAD 114) or Introduction to Public Administration (PAD 114). Students admitted on a conditional basis are expected to remove all deficiencies by the end of the next two semesters. A student who has been denied admission to a program may appeal to the School of Business and Applied Sciennce Admissions Committee. If denied admission a third time, the student will be referred to the Dean of Academic Affairs. Transfer students must satisfy residence requirements in addition to meeting the requirements specified for both core and major. The Transfer Student Policy stated in the college catalog should be checked for additional clarification.

Degree Requirements

In order to complete a baccalaureate degree at the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences an undergraduate student must complete the following requirements:

  1. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  2. Successful completion of 125 credit hours.
  3. Successful completion of the Scholars College General Education Curriculum.
  4. Successful completion of all requirements for the declared major.
  5. Fulfillment of residency requirement

Phi Beta Lambda on Campus for the First Time

The School of Business and Applied Science Technology have established Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) at Arkansas Baptist College. Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is a nonprofit educational association of students preparing for careers in the business and business-related fields. Some of the goals are to develop competent, aggressive business leadership and strengthen the confidence of student in themselves and their work. There are presently 15 members under the direction of Dean Constance Meadors, Professor James Banks, and Mrs. Caron Lott-Dunn.
