Dr. Joseph L. Jones, was selected as the 14th President of Arkansas Baptist College.
Prior to Arkansas Baptist College, Dr. Jones served as a visiting professor of Political Science in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). Prior to his role at UAPB, Dr. Jones was Founder and Executive Director of the Social Justice Institute at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas.
“My family and I are excited to be a part of the Arkansas Baptist College family. We look forward to working with all of the stakeholders connected to the College, especially the students. I want to thank the Board of Trustees and the presidential search committee for this amazing opportunity. My promise to them and to the College is that I will do all I can to continue the College’s efforts to remain steadfast in its journey of becoming recognized as an outstanding institution of higher education,” said Dr. Jones.
Dr. Jones received his B.A. in Political Science from Philander Smith College and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Clark-Atlanta University. He has had fellowships at W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University and the Black Panther Party Research Project at Stanford University. Additionally, he has received numerous awards and recognitions including, most recently, the UNCF Faculty Residency Program recipient 2009 and the Fannie Lou Hamer Community Service Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientist in 2012. Moreover, he served as a Fellow at American Council on Education 2013-2014. In 2014, the Arkansas Times recognized him as a Visionary Arkansan for his work with the Social Justice Institute at Philander Smith College.
Dr. Jones began his role as president of Arkansas Baptist College on September 1, 2016.
